My Dad is Jack from this is us. The man we can't stop talking about. The man who everybody relates to in a I wanna be like him kind of way. The strong, the steady, the pleasing. The loving. Jack, is my father. 

If you take away the alcoholic part and the he died after the fire part, he is still my Dad. And in realizing this while sobbing through the super bowl episode, followed by last night, I realized why this realization matters. Why this show is so important. And not just to me, but to 40 million viewers.

Instagram can suck. Facebook can suck. I mean, overall, you know I love these platforms, but when you’re drinking your 3rd cup of coffee on a cold Tennessee morning and you’re scrolling and you see Mom saying “Can’t wait for tonight!” on your sister’s Facebook feed and you start to cry a heavy cry, perhaps it’s Facebook sucking, or your monthly hormones reacting, or perhaps it’s simply because you’re sad. Because you’re missing Christmas with your family. You’re not alone. I’m right there with you sister.

I was 8 months pregnant here with my firstborn. I distinctly remember it being extremely hot and humid that day. But I also remember feeling so happy. So grateful to be finally carrying a child. I also clearly remember seeing a photo of my mother pregnant with me and I thought, woah that was a really long time ago.

I’m watching “This Is Us” on Nbc and if you’re not, I suggest you get your remote and set your DVR immediately.
