IT'S JUST A PARTY
What is it about birthday parties that stress us out? Is it really that complicated? Actually not. Kids. Cake. Maybe ice cream. It's actually pretty straight forward. Don't get me wrong....I appreciate a well thought out detailed oriented party. In fact, I get giddy when I attend those over the top parties that even a few of my besties have thrown and thrown well. Ya know, ponies, petting zoos, and ballerinas included. But what does the stress behind the party scene do for us mamas? It's just a party.
If you see above and scroll down you'll notice my 5 year old daughter beaming with pure joy that is radiating from her face. Pure, seamless, innocent, gracious joy. Nothing spectacular happened yesterday. It was swimming with mermaid tails, eating a nut free cake from Publix, Little Mermaid music, some decorations from party city because let's be honest, this twin mom doesn't have a lot of extra time to google or shop mermaid extravaganza. With the help of my husband, my parents who flew in for the occasion, and a few of Kona Blue's friends and their mamas, it was without a doubt the perfect birthday party for my 5 year old.
But my husband's back hurts from pulling weeds for two hours, my parents just about passed out from holding the twins all day in 90 degree weather, and my shoulders are so tight from being stressed out about everything going well that after some wine and a night swim, we were all in bed before 9:30pm. Done. Dead. Relieved.
Why?
Because it's worth it. We probably could've toned it down, turned it up, worried less, spent more, but really, it all comes down to one thing.
It's for the kids.
That little girl right there smiled all day long until she passed out in her bed wearing one of her gifts as pajamas and sleeping with several of her other gifts on her pillow and the last thing she said to me was "I love you mama, make sure you and daddy and brothers and Grandpa and Mimi have a good sleep. I had the best birthday ever. "

This is why. It's not just a party. It's a memory. It's a moment in time she will not forget. Nor will you. So pour yourself a glass of wine, enjoy the whole process and watch the stress, sweat, and tears roll off into the sunset because you just threw Not just a party, but a party that made all her dreams come true.
