SKIN IS THE NEW BLACK

SKIN IS THE NEW BLACK

I ain't getting any younger. This realization is wonderful of course once you step back and actually comprehend that God gave you another year of awesomeness. That's rad.  But also, this means we ain't young forever. It's time to pay attention to face. Like now.

The thirties have been great so far and I'm grateful. But one thing my momma always told me when I was young, was to protect that young skin. Wear sun block, wear a hat. Drink plenty H20. Of course, back then, we didn't know shit. And we rarely listened. Now we do. We better. Because, Skin is the new black.

My face is my face and no one else's. I'm thankful for the originality, the freckles, the olive pigment, the not too many issues skin. Thanks for that Mom and Dad! However, as we get older, so does our skin and I'm no Kardashian with a glam team making me glow like I'm a Damn princess. I'm real. I'm imperfect. I'm a mother. And I'm tired. I want to know the facts of how to save face, period. There are many products on the market (that range from $10 to $500+..umm where do I start?), but let's not forget first and foremost about the daily basics: hydration, sleep, protection from the sun and a healthy lifestyle. If you're doing this, you're practically nailing it! Well before you ditch your current products or buy Cindy Crawford Meaningful Beauty off an informercial (yep, guilty), or buy Kourtney Kardashian's app (yep, she has an app), there's  one secret weapon to Skin that you should already have and that my friends, is a Dermatologist.

She's my secret weapon. I didn't know this until I asked questions about aging and sun damage and serious stuff like skin cancer (which my mother has had). But I did, and she was and is an encyclopedia of knowledge. She can save Face, like for real.

Side note, my Derm is not fancy, doesn't have plastic surgery, no botox, not even an interest in fashion, she's not selling anything, but facts. And I'm obsessed.

Here's why. If you have a good Derm, she or he will set the record straight for what works for your face and body. Period. This has been an absolute game changer for me.

So here's what I know that works for me and I owe this to my Derm. (P.s. If you need a Derm in Nashville, email me.) Also, we all know my favorite color is black, so as far as I'm concerned, Skin is the new black and we need to treat it as nicely as we do our social media. I mean really.

Regimen: Night time, Glycolic Acid. It's restorative. It stimulates collagen and elastin, helps pigmentation, creating smoother, firmer skin. I use it every night (sometimes I skip and use regular night cream (yes even the inexpensive products do work too ,) but I promise when I wake up and wash my face, it feels like new.

Morning: Replenish that skin with Hyaluronic Acid serum followed by a day moisturizer with spf (I use 80 every day or a less expensive version ). Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times it's weight so it plays a critical role as we age and our moisture decreases. I also use Trish McEVoy's Hyaluronic acid for my face (I switch off) and the acid for my eyes, instead of your basic eye cream.

My skin is behaving quite well with this regimen. And if she goes off course, my Derm will steer me in the right direction.

Get a Dermatologist. You have a gynecologist, a Primary Doctor, a dentist and so on. Get a Dermatologist. She will save your face. I promise.

She'll also be honest with you about products on the market. And there are some great ones. And she'll also tell you if the lip balm you've been using since 9th grade is still a good idea. And she might save your life. True story. Skin is the new black. Don't be trippin'.
