San Diego is dreamy. The sunshine, the ocean, the California vibes…it’s different than my hometown of Long Beach and Orange County though. It’s almost like it’s own little state. And I’m quite smitten. And here’s why.

Coronado is a little island city on a peninsula in San Diego bay that is adorable and small, kind of private. The ocean is scenic for days and if it’s clear out you can see Mexico. It’s only about 15 miles away. If you feel like crossing the border and grabbing some Mexican things you can. Or not. But also that’s what makes San Diego culturally cool. You’re almost south of the border and you can feel it in the air. The people are kind, the food is yum and the weather doesn’t disappoint. Also, if you’re a padres fan then all the yes. I thought I was actually going to a Padres game (not a padres fan, but played that stadium when I opened for NSYNC, so I was happy to catch a game) but only to learn when I got there I was seeing U2. Yep. Can you say tears? Thanks hubby. This Joshua tree tour is the greatest show ever. If you’re a U2 Fan, and saw this show like me, you cried because it’s that good. Also my bestie surprised me there (her husband runs the show) and it was obviously a night for the books. I lost my voice, cried my eyes out and drank all the champagne. Can you say headache?

La Jolla is even sexier. More young, more Laguna Beach Vibes I felt and we happened to have one of the best meals of our lives at George’s at the Cove. Our friends who are serious foodies recommended and literally it was one of my favorite meals and evenings ever. With a view of the cove and the sea lions frolicking about, and 68 degrees and sunny, it was beyond. Get a reservation there stat.  Galleries and the cool La Valencia hotel for a drink (and to stay), La Jolla is quite possibly my favorite new place just south of my parents house in Long Beach. Next time I think we’ll bring the kids and take a trip to the zoo and maybe Lego Land. Of course it’s not a direct flight from Nashville but this trip was sans kids and we all know how lovely a flight is across the country sans kids. It’s like, latte, book, movie, repeat. HEAVEN.

San Diego, I don’t remember you this good, but you are, gold.

Also, let it be noted that any time you are a couple and without your kids is a time for the books. To re-discover each other, to sleep in, to have hotel sex, and drink all mimosas. None of this goes un-noted. Marriage requires work and work is hard and when you remove yourself from the work (kids) and home (bills & laundry & kids), and you put yourself in a hotel on the beach where you have no schedule and no one to attend to except anything and everything at your free will, it’s pretty much therapy sessions on crack. Meaning, you can relax, let go, be honest, and feel relieved all in the comfort of your own clean hotel suite. Moral of the story: if you can get away once a year and be away from your children and be with your spouse, even for a night in a bed that's not your own, I highly recommend. It might do wonders for your marriage and your heart.
