HEY MAMA, BUY YOURSELF A WEEKEND

I was kid free and headache free (miracle) for 3 days straight all whilst drinking champagne at daylight and all the gimlets at dusk. If you know my history with headaches and anxiety and more or less stress, then you know I’ve taken it in a landslide, for years. This weekend, nada. Not one worry, one headache, one tense pair of shoulders. Nothing. If you can see below this image of me, I’m pretty much a pile of happiness laying in the sand. Hey mama, this mother’s day, buy your mama something special. And then buy yourself a weekend with your friends. And then some.
And yes of course I love the idea of a gift guide, things we love that your mother might love, or your sweet mother in law too, or you, (of course you), so I’ve compiled a few of my favorites below.
But first, all the reasons why a weekend with your girlfriends is not only good for the soul, but literally, medicinal.

FEMALE
My mother has been doing weekends with her girls since her twenties. She still goes. She’s about to be 71. They still get wild, they still sit around in pajamas, they still eat all the junk food and they still talk about all their feelings . Because female. These women, (my women) in our lives create a gateway to truth, to spiritual awakening, to loads of honest encouragement, and so much palpable joy. Women are magic. See photos. You’re welcome.
FREEDOM
It’s funny to see all the young twenty somethings taking selfies on the beach of themselves and each other. And then we see us. And we laugh. And eat more Cheetos. And laugh some more. And take selfies like pros. When you’re truly free, you sit back, you let it all hang out and you feel the actual release. It’s like a free dose of endorphins. People pay big money for this people. Three words, book a weekend.
ENGAGEMENT
Nope, not talking instagram engagement rates. Talking real engagement with actual humans. Here’s the thing, I think when your phone is in the sand buried in your beach bag, and you have a drink in your hand sitting under an umbrella, it’s impossible to feel anything other than being truly engaged with your people. Conversation after conversation, less connection to phone, more connection to self. Being engaged in real talk opens up your heart, your mind, your humanity. You can feel the physical shift. Side note: this can happen over dinner too. I highly recommend a two hour girls dinner if a weekend is not an option.
FRIENDSHIP
It’s not rocket science, female friendship in your adult age is the new black. It always was and always will be. The older I get, the cooler I become and my friends are the gatekeepers of this confidence when I fall short. They need you, like you need them. Find your people. Love them hard. Book a dinner. Book a lunch. Book a weekend. For mother’s day, I vow to gift myself this kind of joy. Because I physically and mentally came back from this trip different. And happy. And open. And for what it’s worth, that’s worth ALOT.
