FALL, YOU'RE MY FAVORITE

Having a birthday is kind of like being re-born. Ok, so it’s not exactly the same, but if you sit back and relax and soak in the glory of another trip around the sun, it’s pretty cool. And telling. And sometimes you have a good cry. And you’re somewhat awakened by all the new discoveries of life. And that means, perhaps a new you. I like this about birthdays. And upon reaching my birthday this week, I took it upon myself to dig into goals, pizza because why not, a new hat because skin protection is my number 1 in aging, and the rest of my favorite things for fall.

PARENTING MIGHT ALSO BE DISCIPLINING YOURSELF

I just got off the phone with my mother 15 minutes after I left my therapists office. It was perfect timing. Like, to the millisecond. I was just about to download the audible book “Simplicity Parenting” when my mother schooled me in parenting right through the speaker of my cracked iPhone. It was like, “bingo!”. There was simplicity in her words, but a tremendous lesson. And it was like a light bulb went off. And here’s why.

WHY WE SHOULD BE OPEN TO THERAPY, EVEN WHEN WE’RE NOT

I remember the first time I went to therapy. It was a lovely woman’s home in Beverly Hills. She had an office on the second floor of her home overlooking her pool. She was older. At least I thought she was. I was 21. Or 22. She was probably late 40’s, early 50’s. I was a bit embarrassed to be there. A bit ashamed. A bit lost. And a bit terrified. Lucky for me, she rid me of my anxiety 10 minutes into our session. And I didn’t die a slow death in a therapists office on a Wednesday.
