HELLO

California born, Nashville living, lots of babies, lots of lifestyle. Hang around and let's be friends!

YES IT'S OK TO WEAR CUTOFFS EVEN IF YOU'RE A MOM

Nashville can’t make up it’s mind if it’s fall or summer. Right now here in music city is what we call “that fall weather where we’re freezing in the morning and by the afternoon we are sweating balls.” But it’s my favorite season ever. Living in Los Angeles most of my adult life (except when I lived in Scotland and Italy-more on that later) we never had Fall. It was just sunny and hot with a breeze. Sounds terrible right? Ha! Nope. But Nashville is different. Beautifully different. And I’m grateful to live here. You really see the seasons and it’s glorious. Each season is unique, even summer when it's grossly hot, summer nights in the south with the crickets singing as your soundtrack is pretty damn cool. And to me, the most beautiful is fall. But this month, we are all still confused as to what to wear. Because it’s 55 in the morning, and 85 by the time we pick up the kiddos from school.

Speaking of school, do any of you moms ever stop in the mirror and say, is this ok to wear to the PTA meeting? Just last week which was jammed full with work commitments and sick children, I literally did drop off twice with no bra. Sorry, not sorry. No one saw me don't worry, but sometimes when you're a mom and you're slammed (which is every day of life) you simply don't have time to get your shit together perfect, every day. You just don't. And it's ok.

But when you become a mom, do you have to change your style according to motherhood?

The answer is no. But the answer is also yes.

8 years ago after I married my sweet husband, I remember we went on a quick weekend trip with his parents and his 5 year old son. It was 95 degrees in TN and I was wearing a sundress I picked up in Hawaii. It was more like a bathing suit coverup and it had an opening in the front (part of the cute design) and my bra was slightly exposed. My stepson was sitting right next to me and my husband whispered into my ear after looking at my dress, "I sure never saw Mom's like you growing up where I did." Part compliment, part reality. In other words, I was a new step mom and I maybe needed to re-think my wardrobe choices if I'm going to be dropping off the kiddo at pre-k.

I've got three babies of my own now and here's the thing and what I've learned about mom style. I love style and I love fashion. And more than anything, I love being a mother.  You don't have to sacrifice mom style because you're a mom.  You just need to take a closer look at the #ootd if you're room mom for the fall party and passing out cookies for an hour at the school. Period.

Yes, it's ok to wear cutoffs even if you're a mom. You won't die a miserable death for being fashionable. Promise.

Also, I’m trying to see the glass half full these days instead of half empty and I look at this strange fall weather as an opportunity to be outside without it being 95 and my boys look at it like it’s their favorite, because they just don’t want to wear clothes ever. Maybe I’ll finally get some photos with them wearing something other than their Pampers. But side note, how cute are they? I really carried them in my body for 9 months. Yep.

And because it’s 85, it’s a good opportunity to wear my cutoffs that I lived in this summer and most likely will keep wearing, perhaps with tights in winter, because they are just too comfortable and stylish to take off for the colder weather.

Also, I finally bit the bullet when I was in Malibu this summer and purchased my favorite bag of all time, by Ulla Johnson. I deserved it. And I’m gonna get me some good use of her because I’m tired of carrying the backpack all day everyday packed with wipes, diaper rash cream and puffs.

My booties by Isabel Marant were an investment, but I live in them (2 yrs plus and counting) and will be for a long time, (hence the investment). This style goes with everything in my closet and is the perfect day boot to run around with my kids, and feel stylish and comfortable.

And last, my favorite item of the month, the Joie cozy white sweater I snagged at Marshalls for under $40. Y'all know I love nothing more than a good deal and not only is it my favorite new sweater, the price tag makes me all kinds of happy.  This fall and winter I’ll be pairing it with my old citizen of humanity jeans that stretched with my post pregnancy body and are crazy comfortable and also my new favorite pair of distressed skinnies, by Paige.

I’ll also be hoping to enjoy this weather a bit longer because the boys are starting to really love the outdoors and it’s giving me a chance to get outside of the home, off my devices, tune out the world, and soak up the blue sky with my already 15 month old twins who are growing at the speed of light. Sigh. But also, thank you Jesus.
