HELLO

California born, Nashville living, lots of babies, lots of lifestyle. Hang around and let's be friends!

LET'S BUILD A HOME

LET'S BUILD A HOME

HOME. It’s a big word. It’s a lot of meaning. From the warmth, to the feel, to the color, to the touch, it’s all important to me. And most importantly, it’s who is in it. Obviously, you guys know my little tribe is my number 1. So here we are. Nestled in our little airbnb just south of Nashville, we are cozy and comfortable and making this house a home, while we slowly build our new home. Key word: slowly.

Building a home is one of my most favorite adventures. Yes, it’s a big undertaking and trust me I know, because the last time I built our forever home, I was also building two babies inside me. And somehow we all turned out pretty alright.

In fact, better than alright. In the midst of this crazy pandemic, this summer we randomly sold our beloved home and decided to build again.

Sigh.

I’m sentimental, so sue me. But truly, this house was like the third baby being born that July in 2015. It was mine from the ground up. With the help of an incredible team, I LOVED every minute of that build. From the dirt, to the grout lines in the babies showers, to the pool and hardscape, it was an absolute labor of love.

SECOND ROUND

HOME. Again, it’s the absolute most important place for us as a family and currently, it’s an airbnb. But this time, building and knowing more this time around will keep me from making some of the tiny mistakes I made the first go around. This time I’m not pregnant with twins (sigh-even though I’d totally do that again too) (yes I know I’m nuts), but this time there’s more clarity. I’m older, wiser and I lived in that house I built while I raised infant twins and my daughter. I know more this time. I learned more. AIRBNB LIFE IS A GOOD LIFE

One thing I’ve learned for sure is less is more. Due to the stressful and quick move out of the old house, I literally shoved all of my stuff into storage. I think I brought my rain boots, two pairs of sneakers and a few coats. My current closet is about 2 feet wide and that’s a far stretch from the custom one I built for my husband and I. But here’s the deal. Since Covid hit and turned our lives upside down, I realized how much I actually need. And exactly what I don’t. And truth, we really don’t need much. Now, I’d be lying if I said I don’t like nice things and all the couture in my closet, but let’s be real honest, I wear the same black leggings almost every day and I’ve purchased a couple Aerie hoodies and some new Mou boots which are my new favorite Ugg like bootie/slipper. I have a favorite pair of cutoffs and jeans and a couple hero items in my tiny closet in case someone has a wedding or we ever go back to a black tie music event in 2021. In the meantime, I’m choosing less is more and I’m loving every aspect of it. It’s good for the soul, good for my wallet, and Pinterest (@mailemisajon) is free, so scheming ideas for the new house will be where most of my time will be. Because designing a house just might be my new love language. Hang around and follow along. Ok, love you mean it have a great rest of your week!! xx Maile
